Research - Health - Prevention
The Institute of Occupational, Social and Environmental Medicine, IfASUM - A long-established institution in research, teaching and practice at Rostock University Medical Centre
Focus on occupational medicine
We specialise in research into work-related illnesses and occupational diseases. We dedicate our capacities to occupational medical research and clinics, teaching as well as training and further education.
Interdisciplinary expertise
The institute combines closely interlinked expertise: clinical and experimental occupational medicine, epidemiology, occupational medicine, occupational dermatology and environmental medicine. This structure enables a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to complex health issues in the worlds of work and health.
Connection of research and practice
We operate at the interface between scientific research and clinical solutions that serve to maintain health in the workplace and beyond.
Scientific independence
We are scientifically independent and follow the guidelines of good scientific practice. Research is conducted in an open-ended and transparent manner.
Long-term research strategies
Our research activities are geared towards the medium and long term. We integrate new issues with our co-operation partners in current projects and enable current topics to be dealt with economically and promptly. These characteristics make IfASUM an efficient institution for occupational health research and practice.
The IfASUM reflects these elements in its organisational structure:
- Occupational medicine research
- Occupational and environmental medicine outpatient clinic and occupational disease consultation
- Student teaching and specialist medical training
- Occupational medical service (BÄD) of Rostock University Medical Centre
- Occupational Medical Services (AMD) for regional and national companies and businesses
Professor Dr. Horst Christoph Broding is Director of the IfASUM and initiated this contemporary structure. The Institute stands for an interdisciplinary and comprehensive concept that encompasses the five closely interlinked elements mentioned above. The overall organisational and professional concept is aligned with these key elements
